Bachelor of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies Early Childhood to Grade 6 – Generalist Certification
This program prepares graduates for teaching in preschool and elementary school up to grade 6. All students must be accepted to the Educator Preparation Program before gaining access to the upper level education courses needed to complete this degree. The program provides general education preparation through coursework in all subjects including mathematics, science, social studies and reading. Courses in special education, the arts, communication, early childhood, educational psychology and English are also required. Higher level education classes in conjunction with clinical teaching finish out the degree for a total of 120 semester hours. Graduates of the program will have developed the necessary skills in communication, classroom management, digital literacy, critical thinking and complex problem-solving for a successful career as a classroom teacher.

Dorothy M. Bush College of Education
The Christ-centered approach to teaching at the Dorothy M. Bush College of Education sets it apart from other accredited education degree programs in Texas. The mission of the college is to provide graduates with the faith-based learning and experience necessary to become competent teachers that can serve the needs of a diverse population and make a difference both locally and globally. Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Science Early Childhood through Grade 12 certification
Students who wish to pursue certification for early childhood through grade 12 must first be admitted into the Educator Preparation Program and must maintain and graduate with a 3.0 GPA. Students may select a major in either Kinesiology or Choral Music Education. All students are required to complete general studies coursework in English, mathematics and science. Education coursework is required in early childhood and adolescent development; special populations; professional responsibilities; cultural diversity; instructional technology; and reading. Clinical teaching is also required. Students majoring in choral music will take coursework in aural skills, diction, music theory, conducting, orchestration, choral arranging and music methods. These students will be prepared for a career as a music educator in preschool through grade 12. Kinesiology majors will be required to take coursework in physiology and anatomy; coaching; organization of athletic programs; motor learning and skill development; biomechanics; and kinesiology. Graduates of this program will be ready to teach physical education in grades pre-k through 12.

The College of Education at the University of North Texas provides several levels of accredited education degree programs in Texas. The college prides itself on developing leaders in education who excel in the development of programs designed for the improvement of schools, communities and families. Bachelor of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies Core Subjects Early Childhood – Grade 6
This degree is offered through the Department of Teacher Education and Administration. The program is designed for students wishing to pursue teaching certification in the state of Texas for elementary education. In addition to the core subject certification, programs for supplemental certification are offered in special education, ESL and bilingual education. Before entering the program, students must be accepted into teacher education and maintain a 2.75 GPA. Core subject certification involves coursework in the sciences; mathematics; reading; exceptional learners; strategies for diverse learners; pedagogical skills; literacy; school and community health issues; and nurturing children’s social competence. Coursework is supplemented with classroom experience and clinical teaching for a total of 120 semester hours. Graduates of this program are qualified for teaching positions in elementary schools.
Master of Science in Early Childhood Studies
The MS in Early Childhood Studies is offered as a 30-credit accelerated online program. The program provides flexibility for working educators by offering affordable tuition, five start dates, eight-week courses and online convenience. The program is designed for educators who want to be prepared for advancement, those seeking advanced knowledge in their fields, administrators and curriculum developers. The program provides the skills needed to become a leader in early childhood education and culturally sensitive and diverse early childhood learning environments. Coursework includes advanced study in research studies, guidance, curriculum theory, early childhood development, multicultural schooling, literacy and educational statistics. The program can be completed in as short a time period as one year.
PhD in Curriculum and Instruction Early Childhood Studies
The PhD program is primarily designed for those seeking a career as a researcher, scholar or teacher educator at an institute of higher learning. The program is research intensive and consists of 60 hours with a dissertation. Courses are offered in advanced research methods and education statistics. The concentration in Early childhood studies requires advanced study of critical issues, advocacy, special topics, research and reading in the field early childhood education. Two additional courses will be selected by the student and advisor geared toward personal interest. Nine semester hours will be dedicated to the doctoral dissertation.
