University of Wyoming

College of Education

The College of Education at the University of Wyoming in scenic Laramie was established in 1914. The College of Education was recently ranked by US News and World Report at 126th out of 1400 colleges and schools of education across the United States. The college’s elementary education program was ranked 107th by the National Council for Teacher Quality (NCTQ). The college is home to 1100 undergraduate and 500 graduate students in a wide variety of education disciplines. The college is home to the Literacy Research Center and Clinic (LRCC). This unique center is dedicated to performing field-based research to improve literacy education in the classroom as well as providing literacy outreach services throughout the state. A number of graduate and undergraduate programs provide the state of Wyoming with dedicated and well-trained educators.

Bachelor in Elementary Education in Interdisciplinary Early Childhood

Graduates of this program are eligible for teacher certification for kindergarten through grade 6 with an additional endorsement for birth through age 8. Students will be prepared for a career providing quality programming in a variety of early childhood settings. The program consists of 120 semester hours and is typically completed in four years. Courses in the concentration consist of 18 credit hours and must be completed with a grade of C or better. Courses are offered in early childhood development, infant development, language acquisition, early childhood disabilities, children’s literature, family relationships, nutrition, motor development, child psychology, behavioral disorders and sign language. Field experience and clinical teaching are also required and can be performed in diverse settings throughout Wyoming.
