School of Teacher Preparation, Administration, and Leadership

New Mexico State University’s School of Teacher Preparation, Administration, and Leadership is a new school derived from the College of Education’s departments of special education, educational leadership and administration, and curriculum and instruction. Within this new school, people will discover a large variety of training programs for both undergraduate and graduate students. In the field of education, students are able to choose from several areas of study including bilingual education, special education, educational leadership and administration, early childhood education, and curriculum and instruction.

Educational Leadership & Administration Doctoral Program

New Mexico State University’s doctoral program in educational leadership and administration currently offers three areas of administrative specialization: Pre-K through 12th grade, college-level, and university level. Students also have the option of working towards either a PhD or an EdD in educational leadership and administration. While both degrees involve a combination of on-campus and online instruction, the PhD requires completion of 78 credit hours of coursework, and the EdD requires only 63 credit hours. Both degrees also require completion of an internship and a dissertation prior to graduation. Many of the courses required for these programs are similar and include such classes as Organizational Theory, Foundations of Educational Administration, Elements of Research, and Higher Education Law.
