Notre Dame of Maryland University’s School of Education provides education aimed at meeting the needs of today’s and tomorrow’s teachers. The School of Education offers various educational programs at the bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degree levels. Master of Education in Educational Leadership
The Master of Education (M.Ed.) program is a professional degree program that prepares students to work as supervisors or education administrators. Stevenson University Online offers students career-based academic training in the areas of Forensics, Law and Criminal Justice; Business Technology and Communication; Nursing and Healthcare Management; and Teaching and Education. Master of Arts in Community-Based Education & Leadership
The online master’s degree in Community-based Education and Leadership program is offered through distance learning in 8-week sessions. Department of Instructional Leadership and Professional Development
The Instructional Leadership and Professional Development department at Towson offers programs aimed at preparing leaders and teachers who can work with students P-12 while responding to their constantly-changing needs and still helping them master skills and gain the knowledge needed in the 21st century. The curriculum, which promotes active learning while encouraging hands-on training, prepares students to be leaders in the classroom or as administrators. The department offers graduate degree programs focusing on
Transformational Educational Leadership; Community Engagement and Leading School Change; Action Research for School Improvement; and Organizational Change.
Master of Science in Transformational Educational Leadership
The Transformational Educational Leadership master’s degree program, which is for someone with at least three years’ experience, requires completing 36 credits. The 12-course requirement can be fulfilled with six required and six elective courses. The program teaches students how to not just teach in the classroom but also work as a school administrator. Students who may have completed the Transformational Educational Leadership certificate programs may transfer those credits into the master’s degree program. This program can be completed on campus, online or as a hybrid. The faculty consists of renowned leaders with many years of experience in their fields. Building leadership skills are integrated into every course. Graduates seek Administrator I certification.

The Ph.D. in Education Policy and Leadership is offered through the Department of Teaching and Learning, Policy and Leadership, which is one of three departments in UM’s College of Education. The college offers undergraduate, graduate and teacher certification programs. The programs have the student completing research, hands-on practical experiences and relevant coursework. Students learn how to shape the lives of students on both the local and national level whether working in the classroom, as a counselor or a school administrator or superintendent. The College of Education has ranked very highly with U.S. News & World Report. Additionally, U of M has been ranked among the Most Innovative Schools and as a Public research institution by USNWR and as Best Value College Kiplinger’s Personal Finance magazine.
Ph.D. in Education Policy and Leadership
Graduates of this program earn a Ph.D. in Teaching and Learning, Policy and Leadership with a concentration in Education Policy and Leadership and are prepared to work as curriculum specialists, policy analysts, education policy makers and various other education-based leadership positions. The curriculum integrates formal classroom courses with major-related internships. They learn how to solve problems, create new policies and promote knowledge needed to improve education. Research is a big part of this program, and students learn to use research to become highly productive policy makers and educational leaders. Applicants to this program should already have a master’s degree. Students from all three of the departments interact and learn from each other. They must complete 30 credits with six of those credits coming from specialization core courses. Course topics include:

University of Maryland Eastern Shore
Graduate School
The University of Maryland Eastern Shore offers a wide variety of graduate programs through their Graduate School. These include applied computer science, chemistry, special education, counselor education, food, science and technology, career and technology education, physical therapy and educational leadership, among others. In addition to completing coursework, students are required to complete a thesis or dissertation that stems from research completed on their specific area of concentration. They must also pass a comprehensive examination. The Graduate School is aimed at students who want advanced degrees or certificates to fill the need for qualified professionals, researchers and leaders in Maryland.
Doctor of Education in Educational Leadership (EDLD)
This doctoral degree program is a cohort, terminal degree program aimed filling the emerging need for educational leaders in the area. It also helps fill the statewide- need for educational leaders with doctoral training. Students in this cohort program work together as a group all contributing their knowledge of education and problem-solving. This 3-year program has students completing coursework in the first year, coursework and internships in the second year and completing a seminar/dissertation in the final year. Courses might include:
