Teaching, Leadership and Professional Practice
The Teaching, Leadership and Professional Practice is one of two departments in the UND’s College of Education & Human Development; the other department is the Education, Health & Behavior Studies. The Teaching, Leadership and Professional Practice offers both master’s and doctoral degree programs in the areas of Elementary Education, Curriculum & Instruction, Special Education, Professional Practice and Leadership, and Reading Education. Applicants to these programs must have a bachelor’s degree, a GPA of 3.0 in the past two years, and must submit an essay and a comprehensive resume listing all accomplishments, honors and awards as well as any educational experience. The programs offered through the Teaching, Leadership and Professional Practice department prepare teachers for certification in their chosen area of teaching and qualify them for educational leadership positions.
Master in Education in Educational Leadership
UND’s Educational Leadership graduate program is available both online and on campus. It’s aimed at licensed teachers with at least three years of teaching experience. Students must successfully complete 36 credit hours to earn the degree. Most students complete the program in 12-18 months. This education and research-based program offers a curriculum that includes both theory and practice. Graduates are prepared for administrative positions at the elementary, middle school and secondary level. Upon completing this program, graduates are also eligible to earn the North Dakota certification to become principals at the secondary or elementary school level.
Students in the Master of Education in Educational Leadership program may take the following courses:

- Education Finance and Policy
- Supervision and Staff Development

Despite this being a distance learning program, students will still need to meet face-to-face with instructors from one to five times for different courses depending on the course and the instructor.
