Accredited educational leadership degree programs in Ohio help students become administrators and leaders in local schools. Though many of the graduates of these programs choose to remain in the Buckeye State, others move to other states for work. University of Cincinnati
School of Education
The University of Cincinnati serves as the main public institution of higher learning in Cincinnati, Ohio. Located near downtown, the university makes it easy for students to do internships and co-op work experiences in companies located across Cincinnati and in certain parts of Kentucky. The School of Education at the university offers several bachelor degree programs and a handful of graduate programs. Most of these programs require that students do some type of fieldwork such as working in a local school or in the office of a school district. Both students and faculty, as well as fans, refer to the university as UC.
M.Ed. in Educational Leadership & Policy Studies
One of the academic programs offered by UC awards graduates a Master of Education in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies. Designed for those who want to better understand the policies used by schools, it looks at the ways in which teachers and other professionals can change those policies too. As one of the best accredited educational leadership degree programs in Ohio, it includes an internship and nine required classes. Those classes include School Finance, Curriculum Development and Data Analysis, Educational Leadership Theory and Leadership for Social Justice. UC recommends that students wait until the last semester of the program to do an internship and that they take an elective at the same time. Those who want to work as principals have the option of enrolling in the university’s principal licensure program. It features only 21 credits of courses but includes the same classes that educational leadership majors take.

University of Findlay
Graduate Programs
Though many know that the University of Findlay offers undergrad degree programs, some do not realize that it also offers graduate degree programs. As one of the top schools in northwestern Ohio. The university’s campus sits on the northwestern edge of the city and runs right alongside Interstate 75. This makes it easy for working professionals to commute to the campus after spending a day at work. Education majors who need to do internships will find that the university can help them find placements in many different schools across the city. They also have the option of working in neighboring towns.
Master of Arts in Education in Educational Administration
One of the only accredited educational leadership degree programs in Ohio is the University of Findlay program. Though the university has a convenient location near major cities in northwestern Ohio, it designed this online program to meet the needs of students who live further away. It includes a general education core that consists of five classes. All graduate education majors must take these courses, which include Being an Educational Leader, Research for the Educational Leader, Educational Leader as a Change Agent and Collaboration: Education and Community. A culminating project is due at the end of the program too. The University of Findlay also asks students to take the six courses that are within the educational administration core, including Student Personnel Services and Curriculum and Instruction. Though the university offers eight educational administration courses, students only need to take six. They can take all eight to develop a good understanding of school administration.

University of Mount Union
Graduate Degrees
The University of Mount Union understands that students today want to make the most out of the technology available to them, which is why it has an app. This app allows prospective students to see what they need to do to apply and to check out some of the graduate programs. Enrolled students can use the app to view a calendar of events and other useful information. It is available for both Android and Apple devices. The university’s educational leadership program will accept six credits earned from any school with regional accreditation. Students may have the option of transferring even more credits.
Master’s in Educational Leadership
Students applying to the University of Mount Union can enter a Master of Education program with an emphasis on athletic coaching, principal licensure or curriculum and instruction. Each of those programs will start at three different points during the school year: fall, winter and summer. This lets teachers and other educational leaders decide when they want to enroll. The program features six-week classes and lets students take up to two classes during each term. They will need to take a total of 30 graduate credits, though three credits will come from their internships. This is a clinical internship that asks students to do administrative tasks such as helping principals during the hiring process and working with a school to secure funding. The University of Mount Union also asks that students take courses such as those found in other accredited educational leadership degree programs in Ohio, including School Law and School Finance.

Ursuline College
Graduate
Ursuline College is a small private college in the equally small town of Pepper Pike. It holds a number of special events as part of its lecture series each year. Those lectures allow students to hear experts talk about their experiences. Past lectures focused on teaching after working in a professional field and dealing with sexual scandals. Ursuline offers one of the only educational administration programs designed specifically for working professionals in northeastern Ohio. It allows students to choose between getting their licenses to work as principals or superintendents. Students will need to select one of these license tracks when they apply.
Master’s in Educational Administration
The Master’s in Educational Administration offered by Ursuline College includes six required classes. Students will then need to pick the four remaining courses they want to take to meet the minimum of 30 credits needed to graduate. This is one of the only accredited educational leadership degree programs in Ohio with a thesis option. Students can get three credits for all their research work they do that leads to a thesis. They also have the choice of taking a seminar class. Educational Administration I, Principles of Supervision and School Law are among the required classes. Students must also set aside time to do an internship. To complete their remaining credits, students can do a second internship and take other courses. The college offers classes such as Issues and Problems of the Principal, Instructional Leadership, School Climate, Curriculum Development, Pupil Personnel Services and Administrative and Instructional Use of Technology.

Wright State University
College of Education and Human Services
Wright State University ranks as one of the top colleges in southwestern Ohio. It’s one of the only public schools located in and around Dayton. The university has a long-standing connection with the Wright Patterson Air Force Base and can help students find co-op educational experiences at that base. Students can also work for the public and private schools located around Dayton and other neighboring cities. Also called WSU, the university was named after the Wright Brothers who were from Dayton and helped invent the first airplane. The College of Education and Human Services offers many degree programs for students.
Educational Leadership- Teacher Leader: Curriculum and Instruction (M.Ed.)
The educational leadership program at Wright State looks for students who will do a good job in the program. It requires that incoming students have a GPA of 2.7 or higher and a minimum GPA of 3.0 in any graduate level classes taken. Students will also need to submit a GRE score when applying. The teacher leader version of the program focuses on curriculum and instruction. Students learn the fundamentals of teaching other educators and creating the curriculum that those teachers might use. This is one of the only accredited educational leadership degree programs in Ohio that does not include an internship or any type of fieldwork. Students simply take 10 courses on the WSU campus, including Student Assessment, Leadership for School Improvement and Instructional Leadership and Change. WSU also requires that students take Data Driven Decision Making, School Law, Analysis of Teaching, Teaching Leader Seminar and Coaching and Mentoring.

Youngstown State University
Beeghly College of Education
Graduates of the educational leadership program at Youngstown State University work in more than 50 school districts and individual schools across Ohio. Also known as YSU, this public university offers the preparation and training that students need before they work in any of those schools. This program allows students to apply after finishing a bachelor’s degree, but it will also accept students who have some type of graduate degree. Those applying need to write a personal essay about their goals and a second essay on what leadership means to them. Each essay should be between 500 and 750 words.
Educational Leadership, EdD
Though there are many accredited educational leadership degree programs in Ohio, YSU offers one of the only doctoral programs. It includes 30 credits of core classes, 18 credits of electives and an internship that is worth a minimum of three credits. Students will also earn 10 credits for their dissertation studies and work. The dissertation requires that students submit an official proposal and get approval for that topic. YSU expects students to spend months working on the dissertation before they submit it. The educational leadership core group of classes include Leadership in Education, Seminar in Administrative Theory and Seminar in Current Educational Issues. Students can pick an emphasis area from leadership in public and non-public schools or leadership in health and human services organizations. The leadership in public and non-public schools emphasis area requires that students do one field experience and one clinical experience in a school around YSU.
