There are some great jobs for retired teachers that let them make use of their skills and work part-time or full-time. Though some people look forward to retiring, many find that they grow bored around the house with nothing to do. They can go back to work and make extra money with the skills they learned on the job. Some of the best jobs give them the flexibility they need to spend time with their loved ones or traveling too.
Writer
Writing is an easy way for retired teachers to continue working and making money. Amazon has a program that allows individuals to self-publish their work and make money for each book that they sell. Writers can write full-length novels and nonfiction books or write short stories that they publish. Other book stores have similar programs. Teachers can also make money from blogs that they launch to share their experiences in education.
Online Tutor
Teachers can also work as online tutors, which gives them the freedom to make money without leaving their homes. Many websites ask that users set up accounts and have webcams. They can set rates based on their experience and what they teach, and they can adjust rates to work with students over an extended period of time. Teachers who want to get out of the house can talk with local schools and tutoring centers. Those schools and centers often hire tutors to work with students on weekends and after school.
Editor
Educators who work with older students often hand out assignments that require students to write and submit papers. Teachers spend hours going over those papers before assigning grades and look for both grammar and spelling mistakes. They can use the experiences they had in the classroom to work as editors. Magazines, newspapers and publishing houses have a need for qualified editors who can identify mistakes quickly. Teachers may also find editing work online in positions that ask them to edit online articles or work that students do for school.
Delivery Person
When some people think of delivery jobs, they think of positions where workers deliver food. Uber, Door Dash and other companies now offer great jobs for retired people. They can set their own hours and work when they want. Delivery people make money as they deliver food that customers order from restaurants. Uber and Lyft are just two companies that hire retired people to drive others around town. Retired teachers can also work for rental car companies. When someone rents a car in one location and drops it off in another, the company needs someone to bring it back. They often hire people to fly out and drive cars to other locations.
Researcher
Retired teachers may also want to look into jobs as researchers. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the median pay for survey researchers is $57,700 a year. They help design surveys that other people fill out, but they also analyze and present the results of those surveys. Survey researchers might work for politicians running for office or companies releasing new products. They are similar positions available in medical facilities and advertising companies. Researchers help their employers understand the results of a survey. Many companies and facilities hire both full-time and part-time researchers.
