It may be hard to believe, but getting advanced science degrees was not always expected of science teachers. However, as the advances in online study have come a long way toward near-parallel to in-person study, you will have greater competition than generations before you. While the position and educational path are relatively new, the demand for highly-professional educators, especially in the sciences.
STEM careers are on the rise and teachers in those areas are needed more than ever. The Occupational Outlook Handbook put out by the Bureau of Labor Statistics, shows that the number of postsecondary teaching jobs is growing faster than average at a projected rate of 15 percent over the next ten years. Also, with the growth of distance learning, there is more demand for teachers with training in theories of adult learning.
Though certification is often preferred, you are not without options with some of the schools below. For most, though, you should heed that advice you may hear from undergrad days: keep an up-to-date resume and write yours to suit the programs to which you apply. The same goes for your similarly-tailored personal letter. Your communication skills will be especially valued in educational spheres.
