About Concordia University St. Paul
Founded in 1893 as a Christian school for men who planned to enter the ministry in the Lutheran church-Missouri Synod. It was initially known as Concordia High School and operated out of rented quarters. The following year, the school purchased a former training school for boys and moved between Minneapolis and St. Paul.
Low enrollment almost led the school to close during the Great Depression but donations from the Synod’s congregation kept them from closing the doors. In addition, faculty worked without pay during the difficult financial time. However, when World War II ended, enrollment grew as soldiers returned from World War II, taking advantage of the GI Bill. Women were admitted in and the high school became a separate entity in 1962. The school became Concord University in 1996.
Today, Concordia St. Paul continues to serve God and the world by preparing students not only for careers but also to live in dedicated service to God and humanity. Students are encouraged to serve their community on a local and regional level as well as to promote service nationally and globally. TheBestSchools.org ranks the school as the third best online college in Minnesota and Washington Monthly ranks Concordia as the number three college for adult learners.
