At Bagwell Hall, the College of Education provides Georgia’s only 127-credit, NASPE-approved B.S. in Health & Physical Education for Kennesaw State University Owls to receive PreK-12 certification after courses like Motor Development, 100 practicum hours, and 10 weeks of full-time student teaching. Chaired by Dr. Alice Pate, the B.S. in History Education builds a 128-credit, four-year path toward Grades 6-12 licensing with opportunities to intern at Awtrey Middle School, pledge Phi Alpha Theta, and engage in the Center for Study of the Civil War Era.
Other undergrads degrees include the B.S. in Art Education, B.S. in Early Childhood Education, B.S. in English Education, B.S. in Secondary Mathematics Education, B.S. in Foreign Language Education, and a B.S. in Science Education.
Online on D2L Brightspace since Fall 2007, the M.Ed. in Special Education has granted a 36-credit, NCATE-accredited Web sequence for certified PreK-12 teachers to complete 7000-level courses from Positive Behavior Intervention to Literacy Instruction in 24 months with an optional Gifted Endorsement. Directed by Dr. Neporcha Cone, the Ed.D. in Elementary Education follows a 66-credit, post-master’s track where doctoral candidates can participate in iTeach Center projects, conduct A.L. Burruss Institute research, and join the Mathematics Education Association.

About Kennesaw State University
Kennesaw State University originated on October 9, 1963, when the Georgia Board of Regents chartered a new two-year institution to serve Cobb County’s two airbases. In Fall 1966, President Horace Sturgis welcomed an inaugural class of 1,014 coeds to Kennesaw Junior College. In 1975, Rep. Joe Mack Wilson got $250,000 allocated to fund the school’s transition to senior status. On April 14, 1976, Kennesaw College was established for four-year bachelor’s degrees. In 1981, Kennesaw College appointed President Betty L. Siegel as the USG System’s first female leader. In 1985, the Master of Education became Kennesaw’s earliest graduate degree. In 1988, it became Kennesaw State College and eliminated associate-level programs. Eight years later, the Kennesaw State University name was adopted. In 2005, Kennesaw joined the NCAA Division I Atlantic Sun Conference. By 2018, KSU had the Carnegie Foundation’s coveted R2 research classification.

Kennesaw State University Accreditation Details
On December 10, 2019, the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) Board of Trustees voted favorably to reaffirm the Level VI accreditation at Kennesaw State University through 2028-29 under President Pamela S. Whitten, Ph.D., who earned the Engineering Georgia Top 100 Influential Women Award. Located 29 miles southeast via Interstate 75 in Decatur, this lauded 11-state Lower Atlantic Region accreditor is recognized by the Council on Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) to review KSU’s 85 baccalaureate, 51 master’s, eight specialist, and 10 doctoral degrees. Further, the Bagwell College of Education was accredited by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE) in October 2012. The B.M. in Music Education was also approved by the National Association of Schools of Music (NASM) in September 2010.
Kennesaw State University Application Requirements
Enrollment at Kennesaw State University is classified as “moderately difficult” by Peterson’s since only 7,779 of the 13,427 Fall 2018 applicants were selected for 58 percent acceptance. First-year Owls seeking Bagwell College of Education majors must have finished at least 17 units of high school academics. Cumulative GPAs of 2.5 and better are mandatory. Freshmen need a minimum 500 SAT reading and 490 SAT math or 18 ACT composite score. The Honors College requires a 3.5 GPA, 1220 SAT, and 25 ACT mark. Transfers are test-optional after 30 semester or 50 quarter credits with a 2.0 or greater GPA. Foreign learners still need an 80 TOEFL iBT, 6.5 IELTS, or higher score though. The Graduate College seeks a four-year bachelor’s completion at regionally accredited institutions with GPAs above 2.75. Many programs require a 297 or greater GRE General Test score. Master of Arts in Teaching cohorts need at least 250 GACE Test scores. Other post-grad options necessitate current Georgia PreK-12 certification. Most Ed.D. tracks prefer 5+ years of work experience.
Kennesaw State University has a priority freshman deadline of November 1st. Undergrads can apply until June 1st for Fall and December 1st for Spring enrollment. The Bagwell College of Education has various post-grad deadlines though. For instance, the M.Ed. in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages closes on April 1st. Online M.Ed. in Reading cohorts must file by April 1st or July 1st. The Ed.S. in Curriculum & Instruction seeks candidates by June 1st. Tuition and Financial Aid
For 2019-20, Kennesaw State University is billing in-state undergrads $2,781 each semester. Non-resident bachelor’s tuition is $9,815 by full-time term. Students pay mandatory fees of $1,003 every semester. Health insurance premiums are $1,229 unless waived. Living at the Kennesaw dorms like Stonewall Center adds $7,200 for annual housing. Standard meal plans for The Commons Dining Hall are $5,747 extra per year. KSU budgets $1,500 for books and $3,351 for personal expenses. Annual undergrad attendance equals about $27,253 in-state and $41,236 out-of-state. Online eMajor tuition is $199 per credit with $355 semester fees. The Graduate College charges traditional Georgians $296 and non-residents $1,066 per credit. Online master’s courses are priced at $383 per credit.
According to the NCES College Navigator, the Office of Student Financial Aid in Kennesaw Hall connects 91 percent of incoming full-time KSU Owls to median tuition assistance of $6,170 apiece for $26.91 million combined. College of Education funds include the Arleen Taffel Memorial Scholarship, Dr. Linda Akanbi Scholarship, Durden Family Scholarship, Dolores Peterson-Wise Scholarship, August Krueger Memorial Scholarship, Jackie Dobbins Cobb Memorial Scholarship, Selwyn Walker Foundation Scholarship, Velma Taylor Wells Endowed Scholarship, Toby Hopper Scholarship for Single Mothers, G.F. Wan Memorial Scholarship, and Dr. Mary Ursits Adult Learner Scholarship. The Noyce Scholarship provides up to $20,000 total for Master of Arts in Teaching in Secondary Science majors with GPAs above 3.0. The Chantal & Tommy Bagwell Scholarship has a March 1st deadline for full-time education students with financial need. Federal resources, such as the TEACH Grant and Teacher Loan Forgiveness Program, require FAFSA applications coded 001577.
