Through the School of Education, LeTourneau University offers programs for teachers who need to continue their education to retain their teaching licenses and programs for those who want to become teachers. The number of students who pass the exam needed to get their licenses is between 94% and 98% and applies to those who pass the exam on their first attempts. Several of its former students won awards as the Student Teacher of the Year and as the Rookie Teacher of the Year after they graduated.
Students who want to work as teaching assistants and in daycare facilities can get an Associate of Education from the university. This program prepares students for working as teachers in those facilities and as directors of educational agencies. It takes only two years to finish and includes classes such as Foundations of American Education and Culture, Strategies for Adult Learning and Literature for Children and Adolescents. A similar program allows students to major in interdisciplinary studies. Instead of focusing solely on educational topics, they can take courses from other departments.
Those seeking a bachelor’s degree in education have their choice of three different programs. LeTourneau University offers a Bachelor of Arts in Interdisciplinary Studies with an emphasis on education and a Bachelor of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies, which is available with or without a licensing option. The licensing program includes concentrations for those who want to work with kids up to the sixth grade and those who want to work with students in middle and high schools. Education majors will take classes such as Development and Learning of the Young Child, Remediation of Learning Difficulties and Classroom Management and Organization for the Elementary School.
The university also offers programs that combine education classes with courses in a subject that students can teach, including mathematics, physical sciences, science, social studies, and history. Those in the history program must also demonstrate proficiency in a foreign language because it prepares them to teach a second language or work with those who do not speak English fluently. The courses they take will vary based on the subject. Students in the mathematics education program take Abstract Algebra, Instructional Methods for Grades 8-12 and Classroom Management and Organization for the Middle and Secondary School among other courses.

About LeTourneau University
LeTourneau University is an interdenominational Christian university that uses the Christian faith but allows students from various denominations to apply. Established as LeTourneau Technical Institute, it opened in 1946 in Longview, Texas. The institute took over an old hospital used to treat soldiers during World War II after raising donations from locals. As the government owned the hospital, the original agreement for the purchase allowed the military to take over the building in the case of a future emergency. The institute had a large number of male students during its early years and saw a large number of veterans signing up for classes too. It added high school classes to help local students and worked with a manufacturing plant to offer new programs for students. When the institute and that plant merged, the new school became LeTourneau University. The university is now very conservative in terms of its policies and plans, which makes it appealing to the more than 2,000 students that take classes annually.
LeTourneau University Accreditation Details
LeTourneau holds accreditation from the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) and a division of that organization called the Commission on Colleges (COC). Incoming freshmen who took college classes in high school can bring those credits to the university because of this accreditation. It also allows LeTourneau to accept credits from students who went to other colleges. The university also has approval from the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB).
LeTourneau University Application Requirements
The university encourages students to do seven different things when applying to an education program. It highly recommends that students visit the campus and take a tour if they want to live and take classes there. Students will then use the LeTourneau application, which has no deadline. They can apply and select the semester they want to start. Students must then submit a transcript that shows their grades through the end of their junior years and a score from either the ACT or SAT. LeTourneau requires a minimum test score of 1030 on the SAT or 20 on the ACT and a minimum GPA of 2.5.
Before LeTourneau makes a final decision, it encourages students to submit the FAFSA and explore all their financial aid choices. Students who receive an acceptance letter need to put down a $150 deposit that holds a spot for them in a campus residence hall and a $100 deposit that the university will put towards their total costs. They can then attending one of the housing events to see where they will live and attend a welcoming event for new students. Online students only need to submit the LeTourneau application and send in their test scores and transcripts.
Tuition and Financial Aid
The cost of attendance at LeTourneau University is nearly $42,000 a year. This rate includes $30,520 in tuition that students pay each semester. They pay fees of $750 each year too. Residential students can choose from different meal plans and room types based on how many meals they want each week and where they want to live. They pay an average of $9,970 every year for room and board. The cost that online students pay will vary based on how many credits they have and what they study. These students pay between $9,585 and $12,825 for tuition and fees each year.
More than 90% of the undergrads who attend LeTourneau University receive financial aid. Once the university receives a completed FAFSA, it will look at the information on that form to determine how much the student or the student’s parent(s) can contribute to his or her estimated costs. It also uses the income listed on the form to find the aid that the student can get. In addition to loans, students may qualify for on-campus employment or grants. Three different academic scholarships provide students with $13,000 to $17,000 a year too. LeTourneau University recommends that students use scholarships and grants to pay for their education degree programs before looking at alternative loans.
