Chaired by Dr. Lydia Young, the MAT in Elementary Education follows a 45-unit, 1.5-year Boston curriculum of 6000-level courses like Child Development and 300 student teaching hours with an optional ESL Endorsement. The M.Ed. in Special Education shapes a 45-unit sequence advised by Dr. Sara Beth Ewell with LiveText ePortfolios and PreK-12 Teacher of Students with Moderate Disabilities certification prep for 96 percent job placement.
Online via Blackboard Learn 9.1, the M.Ed. in eLearning & Instructional Design coordinated by Dr. Kemi Jona starts a 45-unit degree four times yearly with accelerated, 7.5-week courses from How People Learn to Digital Media Literacy and hands-on virtual Experiential Network projects. Directed by Dr. Sean Gallagher, the 45-unit M.Ed. in Higher Education Administration utilizes the Digital Commons online to train teachers anywhere for college leadership roles growing 10 percent through 2026 for median pay of $111,210.

About Northeastern University
Northeastern University originated on October 3, 1898, when Frank Palmer Speare welcomed the first all-male class to the Evening Institute of the Boston YMCA. In 1904, the Young Men’s Christian Association incorporated the Evening School of Law for Bar Exam prep. In 1909, the Association Day School was added for boys in grades 9-12. In March 1916, the Commonwealth passed controversial legislation renaming it Northeastern College. Six years after, Northeastern University was born for A.B. and B.S. degree-granting power. In 1929, NEU purchased the flagship 73-acre Huntington Avenue campus. Independent since 1935, Northeastern was fully accredited in 1940 and coeducational in 1943. One decade later, the School of Education was established. In 1964, NEU merged with the Boston-Bouvé School of Physical Education. Northeastern University Accreditation Details
On November 15, 2018, the New England Commission on Higher Education (NECHE) Board of Trustees took formal action to reaffirm the Level VI accreditation at Northeastern University through 2028-29 under its seventh president, Dr. Joseph Elie Aoun, who received the French Chevalier de L’ordre des Palmes Academiques. Located 20 miles up the Concord Turnpike in Burlington, this spectacular six-state Northeast Region accreditor is authorized by the U.S. Education Department to continually evaluate NEU’s 92 baccalaureate, 214 master’s, 63 doctoral, and 156 certificate offerings. Particularly, the Graduate School of Education is approved by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary & Secondary Education for K-12 certification. Northeastern isn’t accredited by the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP) though.
Northeastern University Application Requirements
Admission to Northeastern University is classified “very selective” by Peterson’s because only 14,876 of the 54,209 Fall 2017 applicants were successful for 27 percent acceptance. Prospective Huskies seeking the Graduate School of Education must have completed 120 semester or 180 quarter credits of accredited bachelor’s prep. Online M.Ed. entrants must have finished relevant teaching majors for state-approved classroom licensure in PreK-12. Pre-service MAT students need to pass the Massachusetts Test for Educator Licensure (MTEL) to qualify. Meeting a minimum 3.0 GPA is required, though the median is 3.65. Despite being optional, many Northeastern graduates present GRE General Test scores averaging 316. Non-U.S. residents must prove English proficiency with a 577 TOEFL pBT, 6.5 IELTS, 61 PTE, or higher mark. Incoming Ed.D. cohorts need an accredited master’s plus at least three years of teaching experience.
Northeastern University set Boston MAT deadlines of August 1st for Fall, November 15th for Spring, and April 21st for Summer entry. International learners must file by May 15th or September 15th. The College of Professional Studies currently has rolling admission for Online M.Ed. programs until March 29th, May 10th, June 28th, September 6th, October 18th, December 20th, and February 7th. Doctor of Education cohorts abide the April 3rd priority and August 1st final deadlines. Accordingly, create an ApplyYourself account to submit the $75 NEU Application online. Tuition and Financial Aid
For 2018-19, Northeastern University’s Board of Trustees posted graduate CPS tuition of $698 per unit. Campus MAT and online M.Ed. programs both charge $574 per unit. For example, the MAT in Secondary Education has a two-year total of $25,830. Online M.Ed. in eLearning & Instructional Design students afford the same $25,830 price. The M.Ed. in Higher Education Administration is one exception billing $607 per unit for $27,315 overall. Doctor of Education candidates will spend $829 per credit, which equals $49,700. Please note the Graduate School of Education has a $70 student fee each semester. International learners must also cover a one-time $350 CPS fee.
According to the NCES College Navigator, the Student Financial Services Office in Richards Hall Room 354 links 63 percent of full-time NEU Huskies to median aid of $26,988 for $228.69 million combined. College of Professional Studies funds include the Dean’s Break Through Scholarship, Harriet Epstein Scholarship, Lowell Institute Scholarship, Ruby Linn Foundation Scholarship, Double Husky Alumni Scholarship, Parent & Family Scholarship, and Professional Advancement Scholarship. The MacFarland Scholarship gifts up to $10,000 for Graduate School of Education majors planning to work in urban K-12 environments. Veterans earn GI Bill VA benefits plus up to $20,000 per year from the Yellow Ribbon Program. Submitting FAFSA forms coded 002199 opens the $4,000 Federal TEACH Grant. Massachusetts also offers the Incentive Program for Aspiring Teachers Tuition Waiver if GPAs above 3.0 are maintained.
