In Beering Hall, the College of Education awards the 128-credit Elementary Education BA for Purdue University majors seeking K-6 teacher certification with a Chicago Immersion, DeVito Scholars project, Global Studies minor, and Kappa Delta Pi membership. Chaired by Dr. Nancy Marchand-Martella, the Special Education BA builds a 128-credit, NCATE-accredited curriculum for Mild and Intense Intervention P-12 licensure with courses like Autism Spectrum Disorder and Disability Services Center practice. The Science Education BS follows a 131-credit, STEM-centric plan toward 7-12 credentialing with 16-week student teaching internships, such as Wayne High, Whitney Young Magnet, and Arsenal Technical High. Purdue University was opened on September 16, 1874, with President John S. Hougham welcoming an inaugural class of 39 to the land-grant agricultural school. Purdue University Accreditation Details
On October 14, 2019, the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association (HLC-NCA) Institutional Actions Council has scheduled the next in-depth evaluation for Purdue University’s Level VI accreditation reaffirmation through 2029 under Provost Jay T. Akridge, Ph.D., who earned the Charles Murphy Award for Distinguished Teaching. Located 124 miles up Route 41 in Chicago, Illinois, this huge 19-state Heartland Region accreditor is recognized by the Council on Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) to survey Purdue’s 315 undergrad and 331 graduate degrees. Particularly, the College of Education was accredited by the Council on Accreditation for Educator Preparation (CAEP) in October 2012. The Visual Arts Education BA was first approved by the National Association of Schools of Art and Design on October 1, 2005. Graduate programs are recognized by the Educational Leadership Constituent Council (ELCC) too.
Purdue University Application Requirements
Admission to the U.S. News & World Report’s 56th best college is classified “more selective” because the Fall 2017 acceptance rate was 57.4 percent for 49,354 applicants. First-year Purdue University Boilermakers must meet the minimum high school course requirements. Eight math, eight English, and six science semesters are prerequisite. Freshmen typically have GPAs of 3.5 to 4.0. The mid-range ACT scores are 25 to 32. On the SAT, the middle 50 percent earned 1190 to 1390. College of Education transfers need minimum 2.8 GPAs in 12+ accredited credits. Test of English as a Foreign Language results must be at least 80 iBT or 550 pBT. Education master’s programs require baccalaureate completion at GPAs above 3.0. Combined GRE Revised Test scores of 300 and higher are mandated. Online MSEd majors only admit currently certified teachers in P-12 classrooms. Educational Specialist or Ph.D. programs will demand 3.2 GPAs plus three years of relevant experience.
Purdue University has freshmen deadlines of November 1st for Early and January 1st for Regular Action. College of Education transfers are reviewed until April 1st, August 1st, and November 1st. Supplemental scholarship applications are due December 15th. The Office of Graduate Studies generally has rolling admission. However, the Applied Behavior Analysis MSEd has a July 15th deadline. Educational Leadership & Policy Studies Ph.D. cohorts apply through June 30th. Special Education Ph.D. candidates must file by March 15th. The Gifted Education Ph.D. enforces a December 15th cutoff. Tuition and Financial Aid
For 2018-19, the Purdue College of Education charged Indiana undergrads $4,996 per term. Non-resident bachelor’s tuition was $14,397 by semester. Full-time international students paid $15,397 each term. Figures included the $94 technology fee, $20 activity fee, and $117 student fitness/wellness fee. Residing at the Wabash Township campus’ housing like Tarkington Hall added 2,446 to $6,856 annually. Boiler Flex Unlimited plans for Earhart Dining Court were $5,398 extra. Yearly traditional attendance equaled $21,682 in-state and $40,484 out. Polytechnic Statewide tuition was $209 to $957 per credit. The Graduate School had general per credit tuition of $347 for Indianans and $948 for non-residents. Online Curriculum & Instruction MSEd majors spent $397 to $718 per credit. The Online Applied Behavior Analysis MSEd cost $470 to $671 per credit with a $1,200 practicum fee. Education Studies Ph.D. Online cohorts paid $397 to $562 per credit.

College of Education funds include the Frederick Andrews Fellowship, Ross Fellowship, David Knox Fellowship, Bilsland Doctoral Fellowship, Bruce Shertzer Award, Elizabeth Doversberger Scholarship, Feldhusen Fellowship, Frank DeBruicker Scholarship, General Wei-chin & Madame Phoebe Lee Scholarship, Jane & Michael Wilson Award, Mike Keedy Scholarship, Norbert Nelson Award, and Lloyd Alexander Scholarship. The Trustees Scholarship gifts up to $16,000 yearly for 100 outstanding freshmen in the top 5 percent. The $4,000 Marquis Scholarship supports middle-income Indiana residents with minimum 2.65 GPAs. Next Generation Hoosier Educators Scholarship recipients get $7,500 each year 30+ credits are taken. The Federal TEACH Grant has a 3.25 GPA minimum and two-year service obligation in high-need education fields for $4,000 awards. Through Project Einstein, the Robert Noyce Teacher Scholarship picks 32 Purdue STEM Education BS majors for up to $15,000 yearly.
