Students may pursue two paths in education when they attend Texas A&M University, and those paths each feature several emphases like science, math, ESL, and language arts. The two departments that offer programs in education include Educational Administration & Human Resource Development and Teaching, Learning & Culture.
Students who choose one of the programs from the Department of Educational Administration & Human Resource Development may enroll in degrees in education administration, educational human resource development, or technology management. Some degrees are available on campus, and others also have an online option. For example, students with interest in the PK-12 Education Leadership program can earn a master’s degree, a Ph.D. or an Ed.D. The master’s degree is available on campus and online.
Further areas of emphasis within the department’s education degrees include higher education administration, student affairs administration in higher education, and adult education. Other degrees include those in human resource development, the human resource development honors program, and technology management.
For Teaching, Learning & Culture students, there are three degree levels and several focus options within each of those degree options. At the bachelor’s degree level, students can pursue programs in middle grades 4-8 math/science, middle grades language arts/social sciences, or EC-6 core subjects/generalist. Meanwhile, graduate students can elect to earn degrees in math education, science education, reading & literacy, urban education, or science, technology, engineering & math.
Doctoral students have similar options with degrees in math education, science education, and urban education, as well as doctorates in culture & curriculum, English as a second language, and the generalist degree. In addition to earning a degree at Texas A&M University, students may also choose a certificate program or educational certification.
Certification programs include the Reading Specialist Teacher Certification program and the Graduate Certification Program. Students can also enroll in the STEM Certificate program or the Education and Social Sciences Advanced Research Methods Certificate program. Texas A&M University has operated since 1876 when it was founded as The Agricultural and Mechanical College of Texas. The huge university has almost 70,000 students enrolled, and the campus covers 5,500 acres in College Station, Texas. The university must seek reaccreditation once every decade, and regional approval covers the overall university but not its specific programs. However, many of the programs and departments within the university are programmatically accredited by federally recognized agencies and commissions.
Recognitions, accreditations, and approvals have come from the American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers, the National Architectural Accrediting Board, the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business, and the Commission on Dental Accreditation. Additional approvals have been earned from the American Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, the American Council for Construction Education, and the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education.
Texas A&M University Application Requirements
There are three options for gaining admission to Texas A&M University. The first option is for students in the top 10 percent of their graduating class. Those applicants can gain automatic admission if they also satisfy the State of Texas Uniform Admission policy and attend a public or private school in Texas. Students in the top quarter of their graduating class can also qualify for automatic admission as long as they can also meet the minimum test score required by the university.
Students must receive a minimum of 1360 on their SAT or a 27 on their ACT, as well as satisfy the State of Texas Uniform Admission Policy. Applicants who aren’t in the top 10 or 25 percent of their graduating class can still qualify for admission through a review process. Applicants will be graded on their essay, class rank, standardized test scores, awards & honors, and extracurricular activities.
Tuition and Financial Aid
The estimated cost of attendance for Texas residents in undergraduate programs at Texas A&M University is $30,024 per year. The estimated cost of attendance for non-residents is $58,550 per year.
