The University of Alabama offers several degree programs designed to educate elementary-level teachers. The dual certification Bachelor of Science in Education for Elementary Education is for those who wish to teach in the Kindergarten through 6th-grade classroom. The program qualifies students for Alabama Class B certification. The program requires 60 hours of General Studies and 21 hours of professional studies. The Master of Arts in Elementary Education is a Class A program in Elementary Education. Graduates are eligible for Class A certification to teach grades Kindergarten through 6th. About University of Alabama
Alabama territory was authorized to establish a township in 1818 for a learning seminary, one year before Alabama became a state. Part of the state constitution allowed for a second township to be established and, in 1820, the University of Alabama was chartered. Tuscaloosa, the state capital, was chosen as the location of the new school and classes began in 1831.
Enrollment grew quickly and, by 1851, 126 students were enrolled. In 1860, the school became a military school with military training added along with strict disciplinary systems. The Civil War forced the closure of the school and, in 1865, all but seven campus buildings were burned by Union troops. As part of the Reconstruction Era, the University was reorganized and it reopened in 1871. Women were admitted in 1893 and the military system ended in 1903.
Today, there are more than 38,000 students enrolled at the University of Alabama. It is ranked as a very high research university by the Carnegie Foundation. US News & World Report ranks the school’s online business master’s program 13th in the country.

University of Alabama Admission Requirements
In order to apply for the Bachelor of Education in Elementary Education, applicants must complete the teacher application form. The must provide official high school transcripts as well as official ACT or SAT scores.
In order to apply for the Master of Education in Elementary Education, applicants must hold prior certification in Elementary Education. They must provide official transcripts from all college and universities attended as well as GRE scores of 300 or higher. MAT scores in the 50th percentile are also accepted.
The University of Alabama Tuition and Financial Aid
Tuition for undergraduate education and teaching programs at the University of Alabama is $545 per credit hour for residents and $1330 for non-residents. Graduate tuition is $615 per credit hour for residents and $1550 for non-residents.
Financial aid is available and more than 67 percent of students who attend the University of Alabama receive some type of financial assistance. Financial aid may be in the form of grants or scholarships. Federally subsidized or unsubsidized loans are also available along with Parent PLUS and private loans.. All students must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) in order to qualify for financial help.
