The College of Education at Wilmington University offers a wide range of degree and non-degree programs to meet the needs of its students. Undergraduate degree programs leading to teacher licensure include three B.S.options addressing specific school levels, namely Elementary Education (K-6), Middle Education (6-8), and Career and Technical Education (9-12). The last degree here is intended to train students to become Skilled and Technical Science teachers at the high school level. These programs are offered mainly in a traditional classroom setting at three of WilmU’s campuses.
In addition to the undergraduate degrees leading to licensure, WilmU offers Master’s degree programs designed for students who have earned a Bachelor degree in another field but who now wish to become licensed teachers. Beyond those designed to license new teachers, Wilmington University offers non-licensure Bachelor and Master’s programs for students who may want to work in the education field but not necessarily in traditional settings that would require licensure. These include a B.S.in Elementary Education aimed at preschool age children and several B.S. degrees in areas of Education Studies. Established in 1968, Wilmington University is a private, nonsectarian university with 11 campus locations to choose from, six in Delaware and five in New Jersey, as well as a robust online presence. Wilmington University Accreditation Details
Wilmington University is regionally accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education. In addition, the College of Education is further accredited by the Council for the Accreditation of Education Preparation (CAEP), formerly known as NCATE. This additional accreditation covers all of the programs offered through the College of Education.
Wilmington University Application Requirements
Students seeking to enter Wilmington University as freshmen should start by submitting the undergraduate application along with a $35 nonrefundable application fee. Along with the application, prospective students should submit official high school transcripts and either complete a Math and English Skills Assessment for proper placement in courses for these subjects or submit standardized test scores for the SAT that show the minimum required scores for either the Pre-March 2016 SAT or the new SAT. In the case of the older SAT, scores of 450 or above on both the Mathematics and the Critical Reading sections will allow students to be exempt from placements. For the new SAT, the minimum scores are 530 for the Math sections and 480 for the Evidence-Based Reading and Writing sections.
Transfer students and Graduate students seeking admissions to WilmU should also begin with the appropriate application, either undergraduate or graduate, submitted with the $35 nonrefundable application fee. Transfer students would then need to submit transcripts from all previous college coursework completed. Graduate candidates would submit college transcripts as well, showing proof of a previously earned baccalaureate-level or higher degree. WilmU uses a rolling admissions process, with most applicants receiving notification of their application status within two weeks of the university receiving all appropriate documentation.
Tuition and Financial Aid
Tuition at Wilmington University varies slightly by location and between undergraduate and graduate level coursework. Undergraduate tuition ranges from $250 per credit hour for active duty military and for students studying at either of the military base campus locations to $372 per credit hour for most of the other campus locations and $409 per credit hour for international students. Graduate tuition for Master’s programs ranges from $300 per credit hour for active duty military and courses taken at the military base campus locations to $477 per credit hour for courses at all other locations and $525 per credit hour for international students, regardless of location or format of study. Doctoral tuition is assessed at $632 per credit hour, regardless of location or format, and $695 per credit hour for international students.
Financial aid is available to students who need it, administered through the Student Financial Aid Office at the university. Students needing to apply or renew requests for financial aid should submit the FAFSA specifying Wilmington University as their school of choice. Types of aid can include grants, scholarships, and student loans.
